SANTO DOMINGO – The Superintendency of Banks reported today that during the bidding process for the assets and transfer of liabilities of Banco Múltiple de Las Américas SA (Bancamérica), which began today, the validation of depositor data is still underway. The Superintendency reiterated its call to those who have not yet completed this requirement to do so, either by visiting a branch or online through the Prousuario.gob.do platform .
The Superintendency invited eligible financial intermediation entities to participate in the bidding process for the assets and transfer of liabilities of Bancamérica, which is in the process of dissolution.
The notice, published today, states that interested parties must submit their proposals for the acquisition of assets and transfer of liabilities amounting to RD$2,403.1 million and RD$2,958.3 million, respectively, no later than February 21 at 4:30 pm.
In a press release, the institution stated that bidders must indicate the amount of counterpart contribution they would require from the Contingency Fund to absorb the assets and liabilities as an indivisible unit. “The bidder who meets the eligibility criteria and whose offer requires the lowest counterpart contribution from the Contingency Fund will be the winner,” the SB explained in the call for bids.
He adds that the envelopes containing the bids will be opened on February 25 at 5:00 pm, at the headquarters of the Superintendency of Banks, in the presence of the bidders who attend and a notary public.
The tender is published 12 days after the supervisory body took control of the bank, as part of a plan to restore customers' access to their banking products as soon as possible.
The process is carried out in accordance with the provisions of Article 63 of Law 183-02 Monetary and Financial of November 21, 2002, on the dissolution procedure, and the Regulation on Dissolution and Liquidation of Financial Intermediation Entities, approved by the First Resolution issued by the Monetary Board on October 6, 2011.
Those who have already validated their data
As of 8:00 a.m. this Monday, 2,797 depositors had validated their information, representing deposits totaling RD$2.138 billion. At that time, 71.3% of deposits from non-affiliated savers had been validated.
The dissolution of Bancamérica began on February 2nd, in accordance with the provisions of the Monetary Board, through the Second Resolution of January 28, 2022.
The Superintendency aims to conclude the bidding process and facilitate the transfer of Bancamérica within the 30-day period stipulated by law, with the objective of preserving the interests of depositors.
