SANTO DOMINGO.- Asonahores, the Dominican Republic's Hotel and Tourism Association, yesterday welcomed the results of the tourism sector in the first six months of 2023, and praised the integration measures adopted that have allowed the industry to strengthen.
According to statistics presented by the Ministry of Tourism, the Dominican Republic received more than 5.3 million visitors in the January-June period, a figure that authorities project could reach the goal of 10 million tourists by the end of 2023.
Asonahores' executive vice president, Andrés Marranzini, highlighted the joint efforts made by the public and private sectors, which have integrated the management of strategies implemented based on the current reality.
In a press release, he highlighted that the development of public policies through defined bodies, as well as the application of measures and the integration of the actors responsible for tourism growth, allow us to demonstrate, through these figures, the macroeconomic contributions that the industry produces.
During a luncheon attended by the Governor of the Central Bank, Héctor Valdez Albizu, David Collado announced, last Monday, the results of tourism performance in the first half of the year.
He highlighted that in June alone, the country received 707,283 tourists, representing a 21% increase compared to 2018, 20% more than in 2019 and 10% more than in 2022.
“We are pleased with the results presented regarding the performance of the tourism industry in the first half of the year, which go beyond mere recovery. Far from the initial goals, we were able to exceed all expectations, confirming that the Dominican Republic is the leading destination in the region,” Marranzini stated.
Asonahores reaffirmed its commitment to promoting the sustainable development of tourism in the Dominican Republic and to continue promoting excellence in the services offered by hotels and tourist establishments.
