SANTO DOMINGO.- The new trend of sustainable construction has taken over the agenda of decision-making sectors in countries whose governments are compelled to take action on the issue and include it in their public policy plans.
The Dominican Republic is not lagging behind and is beginning to take steps, from the instances called upon to provide answers to the problem generated in the world with climate change and its repercussions for the planet.
Architect Yermys Peña is one of the Dominican activists who maintains a steadfast commitment to environmental protection, advocating for the construction of environmentally friendly buildings in the country. The CEO of Partner Construger answered five questions for El Inmobiliario about the new plan aimed at reducing the negative impact of construction.
1-What is the Sustainable Construction Guide?
The Sustainable Construction Guide is a set of guidelines and recommendations that promote the implementation of environmentally friendly practices and technologies in the construction sector. Its main objective is to reduce the negative impact of buildings on the environment by minimizing the consumption of natural resources, optimizing energy efficiency, and encouraging the use of sustainable materials.
2-From which sectors can it be promoted?
The implementation of the Sustainable Construction Guide can be driven by various sectors, including government, educational institutions, construction companies, building material suppliers, and industry professionals, among others.
3-Is it written?
The Sustainable Construction Guide will be presented as a document containing guidelines, standards, and recommendations for implementing sustainable practices in the sector. It will be developed in collaboration with government entities, non-governmental organizations, academic institutions, professional associations, and other stakeholders involved in sustainable construction.
4-What are we looking for?
The main objective of the Sustainable Construction Guide is to promote the adoption of practices and technologies that reduce the environmental impact of buildings, maximizing resource efficiency, minimizing waste generation, and optimizing the quality of life for users. Furthermore, it seeks to foster environmental awareness and responsibility within the construction sector, promoting more sustainable and environmentally responsible development while enhancing the sector's international quality and competitiveness.
What place do you think sustainable construction occupies in the Dominican Republic?
In the Dominican Republic, sustainable construction is still under development and being promoted. Furthermore, it is important to highlight that Construger's private practice has already completed projects with international sustainable certifications. These include the Vista 311 Corporate Building, Eco 23 Residences, Riviera Costeña, and Paseo Isleño. These projects are a clear example of the feasibility of implementing sustainable practices in construction and demonstrate Construger's commitment to sustainable development in the Dominican Republic.
With the implementation of the Sustainable Construction Guide and the commitment of all stakeholders, sustainable construction in the country is expected to increase significantly in the coming years.
