SANTO DOMINGO.-The Projects Department of the Ministry of Tourism (DPP) reported that during the current year 2023, it has approved 542 files of no objection to land use, while the Tourism Development Council (CONFOTUR) approved 61 tourism projects.
The maximum approval time for files submitted to the DPP was 60 days, but it approved 22% of land use permits in less than 30 days and 42% in a period of 30 to 45 days, according to a press release from Mitur.
He explains that these cases are submitted and processed digitally. They correspond to 17 provinces, of which only La Vega and Santiago are not coastal territories.
The DPP is headed by architect Chanel Peña, according to the press release, which specifies that the number of approved cases exceeds the 413 processed in 2022 and the 311 in 2019, the two previous highest figures. It clarifies that the cases being processed this December are still pending.
CONFOTUR's approvals for tourism projects cover Montecristi, Puerto Plata, Santiago, Samaná, the National District, San Pedro de Macorís, El Seibo, La Romana, and La Altagracia. These projects are expected to generate 72,640 jobs, according to information from the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur).
Peña provided this information during the event led by the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, where it was announced that 9.1 million visitors arrived in the country by air and sea in the period January-November of this year.
