Antonio Isa Conde, revolutionary fighter, business leader and former Minister of Energy and Mines, died this Tuesday, at the age of 85, in the city of Miami, where he was receiving health care.
He is survived by his brother Narciso Isa Conde, as well as his children Antonio Emilio, Aris Alfredo, and Marcia Patricia, whom he had with the late Marcia Nadal. Don Tony, as he was affectionately known by his loved ones, had six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Isa Conde, born on March 14, 1940 in San Francisco de Macorís, graduated with a doctorate in Law from UASD, and completed a specialization in Administration, Economics, Banking and Economic Development in Rome, Italy.
He held the positions of Undersecretary of Industry and Commerce, President of the Public Enterprise Reform Commission (CREP), Director of the State Sugar Council (CEA), and Minister of Energy and Mines, the latter from 2015 to 2020.
He was general manager of Delta Comercial, administrator of Textiles Titán, senior executive of Ferquido and president of the Association of Industrial Companies of Herrera.
He was a founder of the Dominican Student Federation (FED) and a member of the Provisional University Council of the UASD that expelled professors committed to the Trujillo tyranny.
He was a combatant in the April Revolution of 1965 from the Command of Espaillat Street 55, one of the first to be organized when the war broke out, which included personalities such as Norge Botello and the poet Jacques Viau Renaud.
Isa Conde, son of the architect and engineer Mercedes Conde Pausas and Aris Isa Dájer, captured the most important episodes of his life in the book "Tales of the Life of a Forgetful Man," which includes family, professional, political aspects and matters of state in which he participated, and which has a first edition in 2015 and a second expanded edition in 2021.
According to reports, in accordance with his wishes, no funeral services will be held. "Later, his ashes will be scattered in the same place where those of his beloved wife, Marcia Nadal, were scattered, under the shade of two ceiba trees surrounded by bamboo branches," the statement shared with the media indicated.
