Amazon confirmed its plan to open its first delivery center in Puerto Rico, specifically in the municipality of Dorado, with a projected opening date of 2025.
The facility will be approximately 100,000 square feet and will create more than 100 full-time and part-time jobs, plus 200 new opportunities for drivers through Amazon's Delivery Service Partners.
“With this new 100,000-square-foot delivery center, Amazon joins hundreds of local and foreign companies in the retail, pharmaceutical, manufacturing, aerospace, entertainment, and other sectors that are taking advantage of the attractive conditions we have created in Puerto Rico in our process of economic transformation and reconstruction,” said Puerto Rico Governor Pedro Pierluisi, who participated in the event.
He said, “Having a company like Amazon here is further proof that we are heading in the right direction and that the backbone of our economy is a productive and successful private sector that promotes the progress of our people. We are pleased to welcome this Delivery Center to Dorado, which will contribute to the growth of this municipality and all of Puerto Rico.”.

Amazon's vice president of public policy, Ashleigh De La Torre, stated that the island is the "ideal place" to do business and that the delivery center will provide the opportunity to serve customers more efficiently.
“We are excited about our future on the island and what this means for our customers as we continue to grow. We would also like to thank Governor Pierluisi and local leaders for their continued and unwavering support in making this announcement of the jobs we will create in Puerto Rico possible,” said De La Torre.
The company stated that the stations where deliveries are processed drive the "last mile" of Amazon's delivery process, ensuring that packages reach customers' doors safely and quickly. Packages are sent to a delivery station from nearby Amazon fulfillment and sorting centers, loaded onto vans, and then delivered to customers.
Once on the road, the drivers delivering the packages have the opportunity to take advantage of Amazon's advanced technology and logistics systems that help them navigate their delivery routes. “This facility will bring countless new opportunities to our community, and we are grateful to Amazon for their investment,” said Dorado Mayor Carlos López Rivera. “With hundreds of jobs to be created, we will witness the birth of new careers, new aspirations, and new futures for our citizens in Dorado,” he added.
Amazon supports more than one million employees worldwide who are innovating and working to serve customers across multiple global fulfillment centers, retail locations, data centers, corporate offices, technology centers, and company headquarters. The average wage for operations and logistics roles is $20.50 per hour, an increase of more than 50% in five years.
