SANTO DOMINGO.- Arajet, the low-cost airline, announced that it has begun implementing Resolution 217-2022 of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC) in its reservation system. This resolution requires national and foreign airlines transporting passengers to and from the Dominican Republic to make adjustments to their computer systems to eliminate the $10 Tourist Card fee from the billing of Dominicans, as they are not considered tourists.
“Arajet worked on its air reservation system that uses the Sabre technology platform, which has 85,000 terminals, and is the world’s first reservation system, created by American Airlines in 1962,” said JAC President José Marte Piantini in a statement.
He explained that the airline's measure seeks to comply with the deadlines established by the Dominican Government to eliminate the Tourist Card fee for Dominicans entering the country from the billing process.
Computerized reservation systems are databases that airlines and travel agencies can access through their terminals. Air transport users can also check current flights, schedules, fares, and seat availability at any time.
Marte Piantini explained that, in coordination with the Civil Aviation Board, Arajet becomes the first air operator to implement Resolution 217-2022, which exclusively benefits Dominican citizens and foreign residents in the country.
The Tourist Card costs $10, which has been included for years in the price of the air ticket charged equally to Dominicans and foreigners for entry into the national territory, but only nationals of other countries who travel to the Dominican Republic for tourist purposes must pay it, without the need for a consular visa.

The president of the JAC offered these details after a meeting with the Minister of Tourism and coordinator of the Tourism Cabinet, David Collado, and the executive director of Arajet, Víctor Pacheco.
