The US platform Airbnb announced yesterday that it would offer free short-term accommodation to 100,000 Ukrainians fleeing the Russian invasion.
These accommodations will be financed by the company, donors to Airbnb's refugee fund, and hosts.
Airbnb also said it is working with the governments of several European countries to accommodate Ukrainian refugees, including in long-term accommodations.
The platform's director, Brian Chesky, and other firm officials sent letters to leaders in Poland, Germany, Hungary, and Romania.
Since the start of the Russian offensive, some 400,000 Ukrainians have entered the European Union, according to an AFP tally.
Nearly half of them arrived in Poland, according to the Polish government.
Airbnb had already offered assistance last August to Afghans seeking to flee their country after the Taliban took power. The site announced on Tuesday that it had provided free accommodation to more than 21,000 Afghan refugees.
The platform set itself the goal of providing temporary accommodation to another 20,000 refugees from Afghanistan, Africa, the Middle East, Central America and South America.
