SANTO DOMINGO– The rise of digital platforms has given rise to leadership groups and movements that have helped to amplify common causes. WhatsApp groups, a tool that emerged in 2009, are an ideal option for facilitating multiple activities in large virtual communities.
The real estate sector has capitalized on this digital-age model. Numerous groups are launched daily to facilitate business and networking. Cristina Alba de Bogaert, a real estate consultant with over 20 years of experience in the sector and a proven track record of leadership, is the founder of Mujeres Activas RD (Active Women RD), a WhatsApp group and other social media platform created to foster business connections among women. We shared seven questions with her to learn more about this initiative.
1-¿Why Active Women RD?
As you know, women are the majority in the real estate sector, both independent agents and those from the companies themselves, and the idea for this name arose from identifying who the real estate advisors are who are actively dedicated to the real estate business full-time.
2- When did the group emerge?
WhatsApp groups are an important tool for real estate transactions, as they allow people to meet and share information, both about searching for and offering properties, which often leads to closed deals. The Mujeres Activas RD (Active Women RD) group emerged in February 2016 from a need we identified at the time: all the existing groups were mixed-gender, and we wanted to empower women in a selfless way so that everyone could connect, feel more comfortable, and do business.
3-Is it only for WhatsApp or does it pursue other purposes?
Initially, we focused solely on WhatsApp, but over time we realized that other tools would be valuable for providing more support and reaching all the women we interact with daily in the chat. For this reason, we expanded our operations to other social media platforms like Instagram (@mujeresactivasrd) and a Facebook group (MujeresActivasRD), which have generated numerous successful businesses.
4-What is the profile required to be part of it?
That's a great question! While Mujeres Activas RD is an inclusive group, we focus on the quality of our members, making it quite exclusive. Agents who belong to the group must be recommended and have a strong reputation for ethical conduct in the business.
5-Does the group achieve its objective?
Of course! The group has well-established rules that are respected by all its members. Every day from 7 AM, we are all active and ready to conduct business successfully. In fact, we've created another group, Mujeres Activas RD2, since WhatsApp currently only allows 257 participants, and the demand is so high that we had to create another one.
6- Are good deals made through that channel?
In the time we've been active, not only have we conducted numerous business deals through this platform, but more importantly, we've fostered networking and built personal and business friendships. We women support and help each other, creating a selfless bond of friendship and business.
7- Any plans to do other things besides the group?
For now, our goal is to continue strengthening the tools we have, which are yielding excellent results for all of us. We hope that 2022 will be a very successful year and that the real estate sector in the Dominican Republic will continue to grow
