Tropical wave approaches Dominican Republic; COE places 8 provinces on green alert

SANTO DOMINGO.- In its report this Sunday, at 1:00 pm, the Dominican Institute of Meteorology (INDOMET) reported that an active tropical wave continues east of Puerto Rico, generating scattered showers, thunderstorms and possible gusts of wind that will affect various provinces of the Dominican Republic.

In that regard, the Emergency Operations Center (COE) placed seven provinces and the National District on green alert, due to the possible effects of Tropical Storm Dolly, which, along with a trough, will be causing rain and thunderstorms starting Sunday afternoon.

According to the INDOMET report, both phenomena will be directly affecting the country, generating cloud cover with scattered downpours and thunderstorms in the provinces of La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor, Samaná, and María Trinidad Sánchez.

The agency said that during the afternoon of this Sunday the rains will extend to the provinces of Hermanas Mirabal, Espaillat, La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, San José de Ocoa, Santiago, Puerto Plata, Azua, San Juan, Elías Piña, Dajabón, Independencia, Baoruco, Barahona and Pedernales and that during the night and early morning of Tuesday it will continue in several provinces of the northeast, north, southeast and southwest of the nation.

From east to northwest

INDOMET specifies that from La Altagracia to Monte Cristi, moderate winds and occasional gusts of wind are expected.

Due to the expected rainfall starting tonight, the agency pointed out that weather ALERTS are being issued that could generate flooding of rivers, streams and ravines, as well as flash floods in isolated and highly vulnerable areas.

The COE placed the following provinces on green alert:

-Santo Domingo
-National District
-Samaná
-San Pedro de Macorís
-Hato Mayor
-La Romana
