SANTIAGO – “Our government is determined to transform this country with concrete, measurable actions that always respond to the interests of the Dominican people. Here once again, we are taking action, delivering on our promises, and will continue working to improve the lives of our people; that is our sole motivation,” declared President Luis Abinader yesterday as he handed over 60 apartments in the Los Saladados neighborhood here.
The president was accompanied by the Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (MIVHED), Carlos Bonilla, during the delivery of the housing units that are part of the "My Housing" program, which was launched by the current Government in Santo Domingo and Santiago.
“It sounds easy, but it has been a great team effort to get here today in record time. This government came to change the way we serve our citizens, and this project is proof of that. We want Dominicans to believe in their leaders again,” Bonilla stated during the event.
Abinader reaffirmed that his administration is committed to guaranteeing the right and establishing opportunities for everyone to have access to the housing they dream of.
Samuel Pereyra, Administrator of Banreservas, who was also present, told the beneficiaries "that today you are beginning this journey to acquire your own home with a title, that Banreservas will accompany you on the rest of that journey with the benefit of a fixed rate of 8% for 6 years.".
He said they will continue to bring stability to thousands of families, to improve their quality of life and allow them to dream of a better future.
Carmen Martes Iraldo, a nurse with more than 17 years of experience in healthcare, originally from the province of Puerto Plata and one of the beneficiaries, explained that having her own home for herself and her 3 children means that "life is going to change for me. You know it's not easy to have your own roof over your head, to be constantly on the move, but when you have a home, life becomes easier," she added.
Bonilla recognized beneficiaries like Doña Carmen. “All the beneficiaries who are with us today are sitting here because of their own merit, because they pay their taxes, because they work, because they honor their commitments. So this is not only an achievement of a government that delivers for its people, but it is an achievement of citizens who, like you, want their families to prosper, and for the country to prosper,” the minister emphasized.
About My Home Los Salados
The My Housing Los Salados Plan will have an investment of 1,505 million pesos, which will benefit more than 2,000 people and is currently generating more than 1,300 direct jobs.
The project features two types of apartments: 168 two-bedroom units and 696 three-bedroom units, for a total of 864 apartments. Two-bedroom units are eligible for families with monthly incomes no higher than RD$40,446.00; three-bedroom units are eligible for families with monthly incomes ranging from RD$40,447.00 to RD$67,410.00.
According to MIVEHD data, more than 3,900 families currently have the "My Housing" bonus, which represents a subsidy of up to 60% of the total cost of their new homes.
This stage of the My Housing Plan is being developed in Los Salados and La Barranquita in Santiago, and in Hato Nuevo, Ciudad Modelo and San Luis in Santo Domingo.
