SANTO DOMINGO.- Doña Hungría Alcántara Encarnación was one of the beneficiaries of the homes that the Government delivered this weekend in the La Zurza sector and that are part of the "Dominicana se Reconstruye Plan".
Aside from the joy of seeing her home remodeled, this woman will have a memorable weekend, receiving President Luis Abinader in her humble home and sitting next to him while the president had coffee in her small living room.
Doña Hungría is a retired employee of the State Sugar Council (CEA), where she worked as a janitor. She said her home was in critical condition.
“I remember that while I slept the woodworm would fall on me, when it rained the water would also penetrate the house, it was something extremely sad,” Mrs. Encarnación, who is originally from the municipality of El Cercado, San Juan de la Maguana, told the president.
He stated that after refurbishing his roof, his reality changed because he now has a safer home to live in.
Abinader, along with the Minister of Housing and Buildings (MIVED), Carlos Bonilla, delivered more than 25 repaired homes during a tour of the La Zurza sector in the National District.
The improved homes belong to the Dominican Republic Rebuilds Plan carried out by MIVED, with the aim of dignifying the lives of thousands of Dominicans living in vulnerable conditions.
The La Zurza sector has been intervened to achieve the reconstruction of hundreds of houses, through roof improvements, painting, or the complete reconstruction of their structures, states a press release from the governing housing entity in the country.
The entity explains that the homes are part of the "Dominican Republic Rebuilds Plan" which provides beneficiaries with a better quality of life and a safe roof over their heads, and that to date, more than 23,000 homes have been improved nationwide, positively impacting more than 2,000 homes in the province of Santo Domingo.
“We reaffirm the commitment made by this ministry to improve the quality of life of all Dominicans and, above all, to build a better future for our country, especially for all those families who need the helping hand of the government,” Bonilla emphasized during the meeting.
The Minister stated that they will continue to replicate the Dominican Republic Rebuilds Plan nationwide, to all families who need it.
During the handover of the homes, the president and the minister were present, along with the senator of the National District, Faride Raful, the deputy Ramón Bueno, among other executives of the Ministry of Housing.
