BAYAHIBE.- The causes of a fire that has been consuming part of the Be Live Collection Canoa hotel facilities since early afternoon, near Dominicus beach in the municipal district of Bayahíbe in the province of La Altagracia, are still unknown.
According to the La Romana Fire Department, at 1:05 p.m. they received a call from Bayahibe authorities requesting assistance in extinguishing the fire. Two units from the La Romana Fire Department have been on the scene for over three hours, assisting local firefighters.
Fires in thatched buildings, like this hotel, spread rapidly.
Report shortcomings
Regarding this fire, the director of the municipal district of Bayahíbe, Enriquillo Luis Brito, denounced the lack of units to attend to the emergencies of the community.
In a video circulating on social media, he explains that due to a lack of resources, which were previously provided, he is unable to meet basic needs, such as purchasing a fire truck. The video shows someone repairing a broken-down vehicle while flames engulf the hotel.
It is still unknown if there are any injuries and what may have caused the fire.
