SANTO DOMINGO.– The Higher Academy of Aeronautical Sciences (ASCA), the specialized training body of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), celebrated its Twelfth Ordinary Graduation, in which 29 new professionals received their degrees in the field of Higher Technician in Aeronautical Administration.
The Director General of IDAC, Igor Rodríguez, who led the graduation ceremony, encouraged the new technicians to continue preparing themselves to always achieve excellence, not as students, but as the professionals who will represent the institution, the country, and the aeronautical system.
“The Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC), through this academy, has become a fundamental pillar for the training of professionals who not only meet the highest quality standards, but also bring with them an innovative and responsible vision in the management of aeronautical resources,” Rodríguez stated.
The head of the Dominican Institute of Civil Aviation (IDAC) added that the entry into force of the Open Skies Agreement in 2025 will be a turning point for civil aviation in the Dominican Republic. He believes the country faces a scenario where the demand for qualified personnel will grow exponentially and expressed confidence that the graduates are prepared to meet this challenge.
The director of ASCA, Clara Fernández, also expressed her views, basing her speech on the opportunities that the graduates will have in the future in the labor market. She also expressed confidence in their abilities and the preparation they have, which will serve them well when it comes to testing their competitiveness.
The three students with the highest academic standing in the graduating class were Felipe Nerys Díaz Santana, summa cum laude, with a 3.85 GPA; Christy Angelina Hernández, summa cum laude, with a 3.84 GPA; and Emily Marie Báez, summa cum laude, with a 3.75 GPA. The valedictory address was given by Felipe Nerys Díaz Santana, who also received the graduation ring from ASCA in recognition of his achievements.
In that same order, Director Rodríguez announced that the three outstanding graduates will become part of the IDAC family, immediately integrating them into the workforce and opening the possibility for two more positions offered to the 14 graduates who obtained academic honors, to be collaborators of the institution and continue their more advanced preparation within or outside the country.

“We chose this career because we are driven by a genuine commitment to contributing to an industry that connects the world. During this time, we not only acquired technical knowledge; we also understood the importance of teamwork, safety, and the efficiency that every process must entail. We are beginning a new chapter, taking with us the knowledge and the firm conviction that the success of this industry depends on committed individuals,” stated Díaz Santana.
At the ceremony of the Twelfth Ordinary Graduation of the students of the Higher Technician in Aeronautical Administration career, in addition to the general director of IDAC, Igor Rodríguez, and the director of ASCA, Clara Fernández, the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt), Franklin García Fermín, participated.
The head of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT) stated: “This academy's fundamental purpose is to develop specialized academic and continuing education programs. It offers both online and in-person classes through a virtual platform. It has successfully completed the training process for this group of young people in their learning phase.”.
In addition, the faculty included Milvio Pérez, in charge of the Aeronautical School; Gerónimo Vargas, in charge of ASCA Registration, and Marisela Orozco, in charge of Admissions at the academy.
The graduation ceremony was also attended by the Deputy Director General of IDAC, Paola Aimée Plá Puello; Miguel Mejía, Deputy Director of IDAC; José A. Cancel, Administrative and Financial Vice Minister of Mescyt; José Ramón Holguín, Rector of the Technological and Community Institute; and Mónika Infante, Executive Director of Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), along with directors and heads of areas of IDAC, special guests, family and friends of the graduates.
