What the Government will do on the grounds of the former Maharishi school

SANTO DOMINGO.-The Dominican government has announced a project to transform the abandoned spaces of the former Maharishi school, located between kilometer 8 of the Sánchez highway and the 30 de Mayo highway.

The negotiation for the purchase of the property by the Dominican State, under the leadership of the Administrative Ministry of the Presidency, is in its final phase, according to a press release.

The plan includes the creation of the Paseo 30 de Mayo, framed within the comprehensive revitalization program of the Santo Domingo waterfront and surrounding areas.

The press release emphasizes that the project has a sporting vocation, a meeting place for people and contemplation, and will serve the communities of Centro de los Héroes, Cacique, 30 de Mayo, Tropical, Miramar, Solimar, Honduras, among others.

It will be activated through the experience of the seafront promenade and will feature sports facilities, cultural amenities and medium-scale hospitality facilities.

The project includes a park that will be planted with mahogany, mangrove, flamboyant, white oak, yellow oak, mahogany, and sacred fig trees. Approximately 24,000 square meters of the property will be planted with these species to provide shade and spaces for contemplation.

Similarly, it will feature a pedestrian walkway and will maintain the scale and character of the site by incorporating elements and landscaping from the existing structure to create hospitality and leisure spaces. A professional skating rink will also be included, with the aim of using it for the Central American Games.

Plans also include a children's area and a peripheral bicycle circuit, in addition to the pedestrian area.

Currently, the site of the former Maharishi school is seen as an urban rupture point, generating disconnection and pollution. Therefore, it is essential to revitalize the area and integrate attractions that can create a friendly meeting point by building the city with the city and its people as the most important factor in the recovery of public space.

This project will give the area a high community value by giving a new use to the land that has been in deplorable condition for decades.

This proposal stems from the government's priority of improving the quality of life for citizens and seeks to leave the legacy of a modern, functional and environmentally friendly city.
