A delegation from the Dominican Bar Association (DBA), a New York-based organization, recently visited the facilities of the Real Estate Registry and the Palace of Justice in Santiago de los Caballeros, to learn about the services and processes carried out in its facilities.
The delegation consisted of 19 members of the organization, which is made up of lawyers and law students, who provide support to like-minded communities of Dominican descent, so that they can excel in their practice in North American society.
The delegation toured the Superior Land Court, as well as the areas of Title Registration and Cadastral Surveys, visited the In-Person Service Center, Justice of the Peace Courts, Labor Jurisdiction, Court of Appeal (criminal, civil and labor), Interview Center for people in vulnerable conditions, and the space of the Santiago Mediation Center.
The delegation was headed by its president, Jeffrey Saavedra, and was received by Altagracia Uffre de Ramírez, presiding judge of the Civil Chamber of the Court of Appeals of Santiago; Francisca G. García de Fadul, presiding judge of the Criminal Chamber of the Court of Appeals of Santiago; Juan A. Rodríguez Fernández, coordinating judge of the Judicial Department of Santiago and presiding judge of the Court of Appeals for Children and Adolescents of Santiago.
Also present were Danilo Ant. Tineo Santana, Superior Land Judge of the Northern Department and Deputy Departmental Coordinator; Daysi de la Rosa Popa, Title Registrar of Santiago; and the Regional Director of Cadastral Surveys, Northern Department, José Alberto Almánzar.
The delegation conducted this guided tour as part of their visit to the Dominican Republic, requested through the National School of the Judiciary.
The DBA
The DBA is an organization of legal professionals and students that supports Latino members of the legal profession, particularly lawyers and law students of Dominican descent, in their pursuit of higher positions in the legal profession and other facets of influence in the United States.
The Dominican Bar Association seeks to support the Latino community in general by organizing pro bono legal workshops “Know Your Rights” for members of the public, providing scholarships and tutoring to law students, and conducting career information activities for high school students in schools.
It was formally founded in New York City in the 1990s as the Dominican American Bar Association. The DBA has grown exponentially and encourages all Latino lawyers, as well as others within the profession, who subscribe to the DBA's goals and philosophy to become members.
