PUNTA CANA- Two hotels, a cultural center and the completion of Terminal 2B at Punta Cana Airport are included in the plans that the Punta Cana Group projects to execute by 2023, according to statements by its president, businessman Frank Rainieri.
The hotels will be built in Miches, El Seibo; and Uvero Alto, La Altagracia, and would be part of the options the country has to meet growing demand. The Dominican Republic has more than 150,000 hotel and short-term rental rooms, but approximately 30,000 more are needed to meet this demand in the coming years.
“We have so many tourists that if we don’t expand the hotel supply in about two years there won’t be anywhere to put them,” said Enrique Penson, Director of Economic Studies at the Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), who recently stated that the country’s tourism positioning in the region has put it on the world’s radar as a leader in occupancy and a preferred destination after the pandemic.
Terminal expansion
In February of this year, the Punta Cana Group announced the expansion of Terminal B, with an investment of 80 million dollars, a project that was scheduled, according to the information provided, to be ready by November of this year 2022.
When announcing the project, it was specified that it would cover an area of approximately 25,000 square meters. Rainieri said that Terminal 2B at Punta Cana Airport will be completed next year and will be "larger than the one at La Romana Airport.".
He also announced the progress of the Logistics Center and the free trade zone. Regarding the latter, he stated that it is currently under construction according to international standards.
"That is to say, next year, 2023, the PuntaCana Group will be breaking ground on four projects, but also holding two inaugurations," Rainieri highlighted.
A cultural center for the East
The East will be added to the country's cultural attractions, which already include the Centro León in the Cibao and the Perelló in the South.
Rainieri said he will fulfill his long-held dream, explaining that the project will be the "soul of La Altagracia province" and will serve as a message for visitors to get to know the region and will motivate Dominicans to continue working to improve themselves.
"This initiative is something I've wanted to do for years. I had thought about doing it alone, personally, but the Kheel family and the Punta Cana Group have decided to join this project, which will be beneficial for the province," the businessman explained.
He argued that this work will be great, different, and will be a source of pride for the people of Altagracia.
The statements were made by the founder of the Punta Cana Group during an event with journalists and media professionals organized by that entity.
