The Tropicalia Foundation celebrated the 2025 edition of the " I am a girl, Iam important " (SNSI) camp with 305 girls aged 9 to 12 from El Cedro, La Gina and Miches, consolidating 12 years of experience with an initiative that supports girls in vulnerable situations to protect their childhood, guide them in making assertive decisions and educate them about their rights.
This year, the program gained new momentum with the return of graduates who, now as volunteers, shared their experience and leadership to guide and inspire new participants.
The experience incorporated educational innovations that strengthened the girls' comprehensive development, such as crocheting, for concentration and patience; the making of artisanal soaps, for skin care; a synchronized swimming show, as an artistic complement to swimming classes; a beauty salon, to promote natural hair care and self-esteem; and an artistic and literary workshop, led by educator María Amalia León and her daughter, actress Sarah Jorge, which fostered creativity, literature, and expression.
For Katherine Durán, executive director of the Tropicalia Foundation, each edition is a new adventure. She emphasizes that the camp has become a much-anticipated and recognized space for the entire community.
“Every year, the girls of Miches eagerly await the arrival of camp, and when it ends, they dream that it will last a little longer. This model that we have built over the years demonstrates that empowering girls is sowing seeds for the future,” she said. The girls also participated in an environmental workshop dedicated to the care of sea turtles in Miches, learning about the connection between biodiversity, tourism, and sustainable development.
