Applicants who do not speak English or Spanish must be accompanied by a certified interpreter and submit certified translations of all documents issued in other languages
SANTO DOMINGO – The United States Embassy in the Dominican Republic reiterated on Monday a series of requirements that could prevent delays or the rescheduling of interviews for those applying for an immigrant visa, warning that applicants must ensure effective communication with the consular officer and correctly present all required documentation.
The information, disseminated through the official channels of the diplomatic headquarters, states that people who do not speak English or Spanish must attend their interview accompanied by a qualified interpreter previously registered with the embassy.
Likewise, any document issued in a language other than English or Spanish must have an official certified translation into English, which must be uploaded to the system before the date of the consular appointment.
The diplomatic mission warned that failure to comply with these requirements could delay the application evaluation process and even force the interview to be rescheduled, which would mean an additional wait for applicants.
The provision is part of the current guidelines for immigrant visas, a process that includes document evaluation, personal interview, and verification of requirements before issuing the permanent residence visa.
The interview is a key step in the migration process
According to the U.S. Department of State's, the consular interview is one of the final stages in the immigrant visa application process. During the interview, the consular officer determines whether the applicant meets the requirements established by U.S. immigration law.
Authorities also remind applicants that they must bring their valid passport, the DS-260 form confirmation page, the appointment letter, and original civil documents or certified copies previously uploaded to the corresponding platform.
The Embassy recommended carefully reviewing the instructions sent along with the interview confirmation and verifying that all required documentation has been submitted before the assigned date, in order to avoid setbacks in the process.
