Ana García is an interior designer who lives her work with passion, where she showcases her mantra: to make the decoration provoke stimuli and emotional responses that make everyone who lives or works in that space feel calm and well.
A recurring theme in each of her decorating projects, which she also shares on her TikTok to bring aesthetics to the entire community of this social network. In one of these videos, which has gone viral, she shared the most common mistakes people make when hanging a picture . decorative misunderstandings relate to the size of the artwork, its placement, and how it complements the other elements in the room (such as the headboard or the sofa).
1. In accordance with the reference object
If you have a large headboard or a spacious sofa, the mistake would be to hang a painting or pair of paintings (if you plan to hang them in pairs) that are the same size as this focal point. Ultimately, it overwhelms the space and the eye, especially if we're talking about paintings and pieces that are quite large.
Therefore, it's best to choose a painting that doesn't resemble the decorative piece, creating a more spacious and airy feel between the two. This avoids an overwhelming effect that can be visually jarring and add visual clutter to the wall. The key is to hang the painting as centrally as possible so that the entire arrangement exudes harmony.

2. Not too high, not too low
The big question that arises when hanging a picture, and which, because the answer isn't known, often leads to another very common mistake, as Ana García tells us, is: where is the There's no middle ground : either the piece is hung too high or too close to the bottom, almost touching the headboard, sofa, or a sideboard or bench in the hallway.
The secret to using the right tape measure is to position the artwork so that its center is at eye level. This is the perfect measurement for hanging a painting according to interior design principles and the layout of the rest of the decor in a space.

Create symmetrical galleries
One of the most original ways to liven up a corner of the living room, bedroom, or hallway (specifically one of its walls) is to create a gallery wall with artwork, whether it's in the form of colorful canvases or black and white photographs, for example. In these situations, you could try a mosaic where the shapes, sizes, and themes of the paintings have nothing to do with each other… but this is difficult if you're not an interior design professional and you're aiming for a perfect result.
This professional recommends creating an artistic display in a simple way, seeking harmony, balance, and symmetry with squares of the same size, all placed at equal distances from each other, and sharing the same color scheme or theme. The perfect example is shown below in the image.

3-Separated at birth
The last common mistake Ana García points out has to do with the distance between two pictures, photos, or canvases. And, as with many things, the key is moderation. In decorative terms, this means not leaving them too far apart with an awkward gap between them. But you also don't need to place them so close together that you can't tell where one ends and the other begins. Remember this spacing: between 10 and 15 cm is ideal.
