The first phase involves hiring the moving and transport services for the families who will be relocated.
SANTO DOMINGO.-The Unit for the Redevelopment of Neighborhoods and Environments (URBE), an entity attached to the Ministry of the Presidency (Minpre), announced yesterday that it will publish on the Purchase and Contracting portal , the call for a national public tender for the contracting of the Moving and Hauling Phase service for the Recovery of the Banks on the West Side of the Ozama River, specifically in the Las Lilas sector.
The Ozama Riverbank Restoration Project in Las Lilas comprises a series of actions aimed at reclaiming approximately 1 km of the Ozama Riverbank in the municipality of Santo Domingo Este. The river's restoration necessitates the clearing of currently occupied areas, not only for the sake of the river's environmental health but also to prevent flooding of buildings located in at-risk zones .
During a visit to the area, the Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza, explained that to protect the freed space, it is proposed to build a service roadand a natural planting area, creating a barrier between the riverbank and the urbanizable land of the neighborhoods in the Los Tres Brazos sector.
“In this way, the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, will follow up and fulfill the commitment to relocate the dozens of families who occupy this stretch of the river, who are exposed to high levels of vulnerability and risk of flooding,” Paliza stated.

The execution of the project will reduce pollution of the Ozama River, improve water quality, reduce the dumping of solid waste, take advanced steps towards the navigability of the Ozama River, provide the adjacent sectors with sports facilities and eliminate settlements in conditions of risk from natural phenomena, sources of pollution or risks derived from human action.
To achieve the recovery of the riverbank, the first step was to conduct a census of the buildings and families occupying the proposed intervention area. Next, the process of compensation, relocation of families, and demolition of buildings will be completed. Once the space is cleared, the studies, design, and construction of the structures that will serve as a protective barrier between the riverbank and the developable urban land will be carried out. Finally, the completed works will be handed over to the responsible institutions for their proper management.
The project aims to continue the Government's planning, which seeks the rehabilitation, sanitation, preservation and sustainable use of the Ozama and Isabela river basins.
During the tour, Minister José Ignacio Paliza was accompanied by the Vice Minister of Institutional Relations of the Ministry of the Presidency, María Del Pilar Caña; the mayor of the municipality of Santo Domingo Este, Dio Astacio; and the coordinator of URBE, Rocío Vidal.
