SANTO DOMINGO.- The proposed law that would regulate real estate services and brokerage contracts in the Dominican Republic has generated diverse reactions among real estate agents, some of whom value the legal instrument positively, while others fear that its possible approval will lead to a monopolization of the market.
The legislative piece authored by Representative Lourdes Aybar de Serulle is once again being considered in the National Congress, in a version that seeks to organize the actors and companies that work in the real estate sector in the country.
Three other proposals have gone through various legislative processes without yet being approved. Both the Association of Real Estate Agents and Companies (AEI) and the Association of Housing Builders and Developers (ACOPROVI) submitted their observations to the Justice Committee of the Chamber of Deputies, where the document is being reviewed, to enrich it.
