PUNTA CANA.– President Luis Abinader broke ground this weekend on the expansion of the Casa de Campo Resort & Villas hotel, which will have a private investment of 90 million dollars and will create 500 direct jobs between construction and operations.
“I believe this is a very important and special event because it is the first time they are expanding their hotel offerings, and for us, this demonstrates, firstly, this group's confidence in the Dominican Republic, but it also shows the projections and optimism reflected in hotel investment and the tourism sector,” Abinader said.
Meanwhile, Tourism Minister David Collado said, “We have restored dignity to the tourism sector. Without a doubt, we are facing an unprecedented historic recovery in the Dominican Republic.”.
The president of Casa de Campo Resort & Villas, Andrés Pichardo, added that “in these almost 50 years, Casa de Campo has been one of the pioneers of luxury tourism and real estate in the country. We are very proud to continue developing the vision of our shareholders at Corporación Central Romana, to keep adding numerous first-class services and facilities that will further highlight our resort among the most iconic in the Caribbean.”
The new infrastructure will feature 6junior suites overlooking the golf course, equipped with the latest technology and amenities offered by the best in the hotel industry today.
It will also have a spa center overlooking the central lake and a modern lounge for VIP clients.
“With these investments we continue to increase the value and quality of our resort, reaffirming that our exclusive service offering satisfies the demands of the most discerning visitor, and with this we continue to be a benchmark as a tourist destination,” Pichardo emphasized.
The president announced the start of construction on 9,000 hotel rooms by 2022 and investments of 60 billion pesos in theindustrial sector, not including free trade zones.
“Every time a hotel opens , we have 1.2 direct jobs and at least three indirect jobs. In free trade zones and industries, between 200 and 500 new jobs are created, and there is no better public policy than job creation,” the president added.
He also emphasized that the country's economic growth will close this year in double digits, assuring that the government has the responsibility to carry out a sound public spending policy, investing in social sectors to improve people's quality of life, and that resources are used with transparency and honesty.
The event was also attended by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Víctor -Ito- Bisonó; the Administrative Vice Minister, Igor Rodríguez; and the main executives of the Central Romana Corporation, Ramón Menéndez, Pepe Fanjul Jr., Leo Matos and Eduardo Martínez-Lima Gonzalvo.
