SANTO DOMINGO- A group of architects will participate in today's elections, Thursday, July 20, of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA), with an independent slate in protest against the "inequality" in the training of the professional groups that participate in the contest.
“Since everything at CODIA is imposed, a group of architects decided to form a slate and run without the support of any party. We seek to confront this injustice and try to present a more equitable slate,” Miguelina Dietsch of the Association of Professional Women of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises in the Construction Sector (MUPYMECOM) told El Inmobiliario .
She pointed out that it is striking that at a time when women in construction are striving to excel in their professional roles, the industry continues to exclude women from positions within its core groups.
“Today, women are prepared to climb the ladder in the political and professional spheres, whether in the public or private sector. They play their roles professionally and seek to position themselves based on merit in the development of their work,” she said.
Dietsch stated that CODIA is out of step with the times and remains mired in its patriarchal world. “Here, gender equality is blatantly disregarded, and nothing illustrates this better than the slates of candidates for the ballot.”.
He opined that the professional association representing construction workers needs to change course and return to its origins, where everyone has the right to participate for a position within the organization. "And let the candidate with the best program for the common good win; they don't even do that anymore.".
She emphasized that when looking at the various elected slates, the male predominance is obvious in each one, with a female minority. "We will be fighting back; this year was something extraordinary.".

It is composed of the architects: Nidia Abreu Durán, Waldo Capmusano Segura, Emiliano Familia Santos, Johanny Castillo and Ana Cristina Martínez Guzmán, all active members of CODIA.

Today's elections will feature five members from each of the seven professional groups that the organization has: Civil Engineers, Architects, Surveyors, Agricultural Engineers, Chemical Engineers, Topographic Engineers and Electromechanical Engineers.
The president of CODIA, Cristian Rojas, reported that 43 voting centers have been set up and that they have a registry of more than 46,000 registered members, most of whom are eligible to vote.
The schedule set for these purposes is from nine in the morning to six in the evening at all the agency's locations.
