SOSUA, PUERTO PLATA- Yesterday afternoon, the rounds of talks between the Government and the Sosúa Beach Association concluded, after a day of socializing the project for the reorganization of said beach.
The 12 members of the commission, who have been representing the Association in the process, met in this city with representatives of the Executive Unit for the Re-education of Neighborhoods and Environments (Urbe), members of the Executive Committee of Infrastructure of Tourist Zones (Ceiztur) and representatives of the Ministry of Tourism, as well as with the president of the Tourism Commission of the Chamber of Deputies, Aníbal Díaz.
Throughout this process, Urbe was responsible for the surveys and census, as well as for engaging with informal vendors on the beach about the project. The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur), through Ceiztur, is in charge of the design and execution of the project.
The reorganization of Sosúa Beach is part of a national plan initiated by the government with the overall goal of the comprehensive restoration of our country's beaches. It is a high-impact plan that will allow national and international visitors to enjoy more organized, cleaner, and safer beaches, while also providing informal vendors with a dignified workspace.
This project, which will be carried out with an investment of over RD$600 million, includes the construction and outfitting of commercial spaces, restrooms, parking, lighting, furniture, offices, a garbage disposal area, a storage area, and recreational areas. It also includes the improvement of sidewalks and curbs in the surrounding area .
The architectural design is integrated with the natural slopes of the land, resulting in stepped or terraced structures that offer a privileged view of this beautiful location, as well as access to the entire beach. To this end, the beach will be redeveloped for better public use by visitors, and the 60-meter stretch of this coastal area, which currently shows serious signs of erosion, will be cleared of buildings.
Additionally, as part of the social component, Mitur has arranged with the Institute of Technical and Professional Training (Infotep) for training and capacity-building courses for merchants and will also be working with the Directorate of Promotion and Support for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Promipyme) to provide low-cost loans for qualifying businesses.
Objective
From the beginning of this project, the Government has expressed its interest in the reactivation of tourism in this destination of Sosúa, which has deteriorated in recent years due to the growth of prostitution and the trade of illegal substances.
Authorities have stated that their actions are aimed at creating better opportunities for residents.
