The Ministry of Tourism reported record air arrivals and a national occupancy rate exceeding 70%.
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) reported yesterday that during the month of December, the Dominican Republic has achieved record numbers of air arrivals, with 42,949 tourists in a single day and 120,475 in a weekend.
According to official data, as of the 21st of this month the country had received 627,000 visitors, matching the total for December 2019, prior to the pandemic.
The Tourism Intelligence System (Situr) indicated that national hotel occupancy remained above 70% during the last month of 2025.
Hotel occupancy in tourist destinations
According to Situr, La Romana-Bayahíbe maintains an average occupancy rate of 85.1% and Bávaro-Punta Cana 79.7%, positioning themselves as the tourist destinations with the highest occupancy rates in December so far. Greater Santo Domingo reached 55.3% and Santiago 57.6%.
According to data on the Ministry of Tourism's website, Samaná reported 53.5% occupancy and Boca Chica-Juan Dolio 57.1%. Sosúa-Cabarete had 39.4%, reflecting variations among the different destinations.
The official report indicated that national occupancy has consolidated the high season in the main national tourist attractions.
Air arrivals and source markets
The Ministry of Tourism also reported that the most used airports have been Punta Cana and Las Américas, followed by Cibao and Puerto Plata. In total, more than 5,000 flights had arrived in the Dominican Republic as of December 21.
Countries
Situr reported that the main countries of origin for visitors in November and December were the United States, Canada, Argentina, Colombia, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Brazil, Peru, France, Chile, Spain, Germany, Italy, Ecuador and Poland.
Other relevant markets cited in the report are Haiti, Venezuela, India, Guatemala, Ukraine, Uruguay, Panama, Costa Rica, Jamaica, Switzerland, the Netherlands, China, and El Salvador.
The Ministry of Tourism (Mitur) noted that the diversity of source markets remains stable in the last part of the year, with a predominance of arrivals from America and Europe.
