SANTO DOMINGO. - Tourism Minister David Collado announced a strengthening of measures to address the issue of prostitution and the abuse of children and adolescents in order to have safer tourist destinations in the country.
The decision was made during a meeting of the Tourism Cabinet with Attorney General Yeni Berenice Reynoso, which took place at the headquarters of the Ministry of Tourism.
In addition to Minister Collado and Attorney General Berenice, the meeting was also attended by the Director of the National Police, Major General Eduardo Alberto Then; the President of the National Directorate for Drug Control (DNCD), Vice Admiral José Manuel Cabrera Ulloa; the Director of the Tourist Police (POLITUR), Minoru Matsunaga; and representatives of the private sector, headed by Rafael Blanco Tejera, President of ASONAHORES.
At the meeting, it was agreed to sign an agreement with the aim of creating uniform protocols for addressing incidents that occur to tourists in hotels and different destinations.
The agreement will also include the contribution of the National Police with its online reporting platform.
“Today’s meeting could not have been more fruitful in continuing to guarantee safer destinations,” said Minister Collado at the end of the meeting.
He reported that the agreement includes specific actions for the prevention and control of prostitution and abuse of girls, boys and adolescents.
It will also include a day of talks and workshops for collaborators throughout the sector's value chain in order to strengthen the protection of minors in tourist destinations.
