SANTO DOMINGO.-The engineers and architects grouped in the CIC, Codiano Institutional Committee, appealed once again to the Government to listen to their requests to pay them what the State owes them as contractors.
In that regard, they called on the competent authorities to arrange for the payment of work performed but not paid for during the Christmas period, while reiterating that they have grown tired of approaching ministers, directors and other officials, with their efforts proving fruitless.
They expressed, through social media, that it is a very common practice of governments to put engineers and architects to work at this time of year and not pay them for their Christmas work.
“This recurring practice of the governments we have had in the country, in the last 26 years, of not paying their commitments, led with great sorrow and pain, to 25 professionals committing suicide and dying in the years 1996-2022, for the same causes and reasons, that the incumbents of these institutions did not honor the payment at the end of the work and projects carried out,” the professionals stated.
The contractors said they were tired of knocking on the doors of the offices of ministers and directors of institutions, and receiving responses that they do not have money to pay for the work included in their respective budgets and, furthermore, that they do not have the resources to pay for it, arguing that these are debts from past administrations; forgetting that the State is a single, continuous entity.
They explained that their main objective is to collect “the debts that the Dominican State has with more than 300 registered contractors, in addition to other situations that affect us, such as the questioning that Codia is made by the majority of the members and Dominican society.”.
“For these reasons, we set out to participate in the articulation of actions so that our College can frame its professional activities within the scope of the laws that gave rise to it, Law 6160, 6201, 6200 and its internal statutory regulations,” they said.
