The toll plaza is being relocated to help alleviate the heavy traffic to and from the northern region.
SANTO DOMINGO- The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported that work to relocate the Duarte Highway toll plaza from kilometer 24 to 32 is progressing well, and that the new structure is expected to be operational by mid-April.
The Deputy Minister of Supervision and Inspection of the MOPC, Roberto Herrera, observed this week the progress of the work being carried out on what will be the new toll base.
“The infrastructure part is already one hundred percent complete, and in the field part, work is being done to finish the excavations, which is where the structure will be built,” he stated.
The relocation of the toll booth is an important part of the remodeling and expansion work on the Duarte highway, which runs from Kilometer Nine to Montecristi, with a total investment exceeding 11 billion pesos.
Herrera explained that the construction schedule indicates they are progressing well and that it will be operational in April. “We gave instructions to intensify the work, even though it is already accelerating, without sacrificing the most important thing, which is the quality of the work, and thus further reduce the delivery time,” he stated.
Public Works, together with the RD-Vial Trust, is in charge of relocating the toll as a way to help alleviate the intense traffic to and from the North region.
The remodeling and expansion works of the Duarte highway, which include the expansion and connectivity of Greater Santo Domingo with the 14 provinces of Cibao, will contribute to the development of that agricultural, industrial and tourist region, which concentrates more than 34% of the Dominican population.
