SANTO DOMINGO.- On the morning of Monday, December 12, the legal advisor to the Executive Branch, Antoliano Peralta, accompanied by other officials, will attend a meeting with the President of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella, to submit draft bills, within the framework of the institutional reform process promoted by President Luis Abinader.
The initiatives cover various topics of interest such as the protection of women, the fight against human trafficking, the administration of seized assets, and the promotion of competitiveness in civil aviation in the country.
In a press release from the Presidency, Peralta reported that the projects to be presented "are the result of a long work in which, although the coordination has been in charge of the Legal Consulting Office, it has had the participation of other organs and powers of the State, within the scope of their respective powers.".
Referring to the bill for the promotion and competitiveness of national civil aviation, the official stated that it is a mechanism for national operating companies to obtain some tax benefits that allow for a decrease in air ticket prices.
“This measure aims to have a direct impact on the cost of airfare for citizens, while also promoting the development of an important business sector in the country,” the statement indicates.
Furthermore, to achieve the objective of fostering the competitiveness of civil aviation in the Dominican Republic, the initiative seeks to establish the relevant incentives to promote an increase in visitors to the national territory by air, establish new domestic and international routes to and from strategic markets of the Dominican Republic, and strengthen the positioning of the Dominican Republic as a connection point for transportation, passenger and cargo logistics, trade, and international investment.
“President Abinader understands that the State must support and promote civil aviation, due to the particularities and difficulties that international air transport faces in the tax field, which is why legislation is required that takes into consideration the characteristics and nature of civil aviation companies, as they are actors in the national and international economy,” Peralta said.
