SANTO DOMINGO- The Dominican Republic has increased its air connectivity with other countries around the world, establishing more direct flights and routes to and from the Dominican territory.
During the third extraordinary meeting of the body responsible for establishing the superior policy of civil aviation, Héctor Porcella Dumas reiterated that he will continue working to increase the country's air connectivity and consolidate the national territory as the epicenter of tourism and air transport among the countries of the greater Caribbean.
The new president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), appointed by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, through Decree 390-24, along with the other members of the plenary, reviewed the request for special permission from Air Caraibes to operate the Paris-Orly/Santo Domingo/Punta Cana/Paris-Orly route, from August 29, 2024 to October 17, 2024.
During the period from January 2023 to July 2024, Air Caraibes transported 241,224 passengers on 1,065 flights. “Our goal is to establish greater air connectivity to increase the number of tourists traveling to the Dominican Republic. Tourism represents approximately 16% of the Dominican Republic's GDP,” stated the new president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC).

Likewise, the members of the plenary were informed of the request for special permission from Air Transat, to fly from November 1, 2024 to April 30, 2025, on the routes: Toronto/Samaná, Quebec/Samaná, Toronto/La Romana, Ottawa/Puerto Plata; Ottawa/Punta Cana, Moncton/Punta Cana and London, Ontario/Punta Cana.
According to data from the Statistics Division of the Air Transport Department of the JAC, the foreign airline Air Transat, from January 2023 to July 2024, transported 1,455,713 passengers in 7,060 air operations of arrivals and departures on the routes authorized in its operating permit and other modalities, “Dominicans can travel directly to the cities of Toronto, Quebec, Ottawa, Moncton and London, in Canada, without having to wait at another airport,” Porcella reported.
