The Dominican Republic is almost at its goal of receiving 10 million visitors

SANTO DOMINGO.- Tourism Minister David Collado reported this Tuesday that the country received 9,105,043 visitors in the January-November period, representing a growth of 22% compared to last year, 103% compared to 2021 and 34% compared to 2019.

In his now customary monthly press conference to announce the results of the sector's performance, Collado said that in November, 636,460 people arrived in the country by air alone, of which 542,229 were foreigners and 94,231 were Dominicans living abroad.

He highlighted that those 636,460 tourists, arriving by air, represent 38% more than those who arrived in the country in 2019, 22% more than in 2021, and 11% more than last year.

The official also indicated that cruise tourism is also showing steady growth, with the country receiving 223,393 cruise passengers through its various ports in November alone, bringing the total to 1,991,399 in the first eleven months of the year.

Minister Collado emphasized that in the period January-November the country achieved 7,191,052 visits by air and 1,913,991 by sea, which he described as something never seen before in the history of Dominican tourism.

"This means that in 11 months the Dominican Republic received 9,105,043 visitors, a milestone in the history of our tourism. Ladies and gentlemen, we did it again," said Collado, who was interrupted by a loud ovation.

He stated that these numbers are an unequivocal sign that the goal of ten million visitors will be achieved by the end of this year.

The main countries of origin for tourists in November were the United States with 42%, Canada with 19%, Colombia with 5%, and Germany and Argentina with 3% each.

Also last month, Punta Cana airport received 58% of tourists, followed by Las Américas with 26%, Cibao with 10%, Puerto Plata with 5% and Romana, Samana and La Isabela with 1% each.
