SANTO DOMINGO.– “The Dominican Republic is a country with enormous potential, and demonstrating this depends on well-executed projects that value its people and the resources it possesses,” said Argentine businessman Leonardo Wehe.
He emphasized the importance of promoting projects with comprehensive planning criteria that connect private investment and community well-being, noting that the North Coast has the conditions to position itself as a benchmark for alternative tourism in the Caribbean.
Wehe's remarks were shared during his participation in a panel discussion at the presentation of the Puerto Plata branch of the Cibao Association of Developers and Builders (Aprocovici). The panel also included architects Víctor Franco, Javier Pérez, and María Laura Guevara, and was moderated by lawyer Juan Yamil Musa.
The participants discussed topics related to sustainability, urban growth and tourism projection, agreeing that the development that Puerto Plata is experiencing requires coordination among the different actors involved to avoid improvised expansions.
They indicated that the province needs to strengthen regulatory and supervisory mechanisms to ensure balanced growth.
Aprocovici Puerto Plata
The new Puerto Plata branch was created with the objective of strengthening and organizing the representation of housing developers and builders in the Northern region.
The initiative seeks to bring together the province's main developers in a joint workspace, with a view to unifying criteria for the orderly and sustainable growth of Puerto Plata, according to a press release from the entity.
It adds that the association aims to address the challenges related to urban planning and responsible real estate development.
Engineer Rafael Octavio Silverio (SC Group), Architect Manuel Durán (Atlantic Group) and Engineer Benny Martínez (Dualma Construction Company) explained that the creation of the entity responds to the need to consolidate a formal platform that represents the sector and facilitates technical discussion on the main issues of the province.
Aprocovici Puerto Plata announced that it will continue formalizing its internal structure, integrating new members, and forming technical committees in areas such as urban planning, sustainability, and investment promotion. It also plans to establish an ongoing dialogue with authorities and sectors involved in territorial development.
