SANTO DOMINGO.-The treatment plant being built in the Cabo Rojo tourism development project in Pedernales will be responsible for processing the wastewater from all the infrastructure that makes up the ambitious project, including hotels, port, airfield, golf course and others.
Engineer Ángel Mercedes, head of the technical office of the company responsible for the project, said that it is 85% complete and uses "activated sludge" technology, which allows the waste to be reused for fertilizer and irrigation in agricultural areas.
“The goal of this type of plant is to reuse treated water for irrigation and crops, such as those on the golf course and all the gardens. This way, we can guarantee that the Cabo Rojo project is developed in an environmentally friendly manner,” said Mercedes, after emphasizing that the project meets national and international environmental standards.
This water and sanitation infrastructure will be an extended aeration and activated sludge plant, in which everything that comes out of it, including its treated water, will be used for composting, plant fertilizer and irrigation.
The system, explained engineer Mercedes, translates into an economic impact, both for hotels and for farmers, who would no longer have to invest in the production of water or fertilizer for their operations, in addition to the reduction of carbon footprints, due to the operation of a UTV system that they will have in the area.
The professional expressed his satisfaction that this type of technology for wastewater treatment is being implemented in the Dominican Republic, creating a positive impact on the environment, in full accordance with the nature of the project, which is ecological.
“With the plant functioning properly, we can guarantee that everything that comes out of it will benefit the entire community,” Mercedes emphasized.
The project is part of the Cabo Rojo infrastructure complex and is 85% complete. It is expected to be finished by the end of 2024.
