Authorities and community members have embarked on a crusade to transform this destination into a model of sustainable, fair, transparent, and proudly Dominican tourism.
Authorities, citizens, and strategic sectors of the municipality of Sosúa have joined together in an unprecedented exercise of dialogue, analysis, and planning with a clear objective: to restore Sosúa 's dignity, its essence, and its place as one of the most emblematic tourist destinations in the Dominican Republic.
Responding to the call of the Sosúa Sustainable Development Association (ADSS) , a comprehensive working day was held this Thursday morning at the AMHSA Casa Marina Hotel, in which representatives from all sectors that make up the economic, social and community life of the municipality participated.
The meeting focused on an analysis of the destination's current strengths, opportunities, and challenges, with a view to collaboratively building a roadmap for its relaunch.
The event exceeded all expectations, with a massive turnout of citizens, community leaders, businesspeople, representatives of the tourism sector, civil authorities, and high-ranking officers of the Armed Forces and the National Police, who expressed their support for the transformation process taking place in the territory.
This local movement is linked to Operation Atlantic, an initiative led by the Attorney General of the Republic, Yeni Berenice Reynoso, and the Minister of the Interior and Police, Faride Raful, which has been enthusiastically received by the residents of Sosúa.
This strategic intervention has been recognized as a firm step toward restoring public order, eradicating illicit practices, protecting minors , and re-establishing the law in the municipality. Society has responded with maturity, courage, and commitment, understanding that development is only possible when respect for the law and the protection of human rights prevail.
In this context, the ADSS has assumed the role of social facilitator, fostering reflection, consensus, and proactive planning. “This has been a historic day, a clear demonstration that Sosúa is ready to be reborn. Today we have laid the groundwork that will guide the coordinated effort between the public and private sectors to reposition this destination as a healthy, ethical, safe, and culturally enriching space for family tourism,” said David Ferreiras, president of the Sosúa Sustainable Development Association.
Throughout the meeting, key projects were identified that should be prioritized to accelerate the municipality's transformation process. These initiatives range from infrastructure and environmental restoration projects to local entrepreneurship programs , strengthening the tourism sector , creating decent jobs , and developing international promotion strategies
The results will be formally presented to the Minister of Tourism, David Collado, who, during his most recent visit to Sosúa last July, reiterated his firm commitment to the relaunch of this destination. Collado stated at the time that “Sosúa cannot continue to bear a stigma that does not represent its true identity,” and assured that the Ministry of Tourism would decisively support all the necessary actions for its transformation.
The day concluded with a strong call for unity among all social and institutional actors. The transformation of Sosúa will not be the task of a single sector, but rather the result of an active alliance between the government, businesses, the community, and international cooperation.
The shared desire is clear: to turn Sosúa into a model of sustainable, fair, transparent and proudly Dominican tourism.
