Grupo Puntacana inaugurates air and industrial logistics center in the east

It will generate more than 9,000 direct and indirect jobs and strengthen the country's international projection.

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Puntacana Group inaugurated Punta Cana Free Trade Zone yesterday, Wednesday, November 12 , an air and industrial logistics center located within the Punta Cana International Airport, with the purpose of boosting the economic diversification of the east of the country and strengthening the logistical connectivity of the region.

The project spans over 742,000 square meters and is the first in the Caribbean to integrate an air logistics center, an industrial zone, and an aircraft maintenance area in a single location. It is estimated to generate more than 9,000 direct and indirect jobs during its development and operation.

The inauguration ceremony was led by President Luis Abinader, along with Frank Rainieri and Frank Elías Rainieri of the Puntacana Group. In his remarks, the president emphasized that the initiative consolidates the Dominican Republic as a logistics hub for the region, by integrating with the strategic projects also underway in Manzanillo and the port of Haina.

According to the data provided in the press release, the complex has a 15,890 square meter for handling air cargo, an initial industrial area of ​​6,300 square meters with the possibility of expansion up to 60,000, and a 22,000 square meter fuel terminal intended for cargo aircraft, which will provide about 200 additional jobs.

The CEO of the Puntacana Group, Frank Elías Rainieri, explained that the new center will house companies dedicated to light manufacturing, aeronautical services, international logistics and technological production, contributing to diversifying the economy and generating new opportunities in the eastern region.

For his part, the Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Víctor “Ito” Bisonó, stated that this type of investment strengthens the country's competitiveness by attracting foreign capital and strengthening the value chain of Dominican exports.

Likewise, the Director General of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón, pointed out that with this project the country consolidates its strategic position, by offering conditions that allow for the transformation and re-export of goods from the national territory with greater efficiency.
