SANTO DOMINGO.-The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) announced this Wednesday that it has ordered the closure of the vehicular bridge on Avenida Hípica over the Las Américas highway to work on widening the turning and installing the columns that support it at that point.
The Deputy Minister of Supervision and Inspection, Roberto Herrera, explained that the pedestrian bridge was also closed for ten days to carry out shoring and sanitation work on the structure.
“The other part of the structure is already being built in the workshops of the contracting company, which will replace and install the one they are currently constructing in the warehouses within a period of no more than 55 days. In two months, that pedestrian bridge will be fully rehabilitated, and in less than ten days it will be ready for use again,” he emphasized.
Regarding the overpass that connects Las Américas with La Hípica, Herrera said that the first phase of rehabilitation and shoring has been completed, allowing vehicles to continue circulating.
“In a few days, this overpass will be completely closed, as the Ministry decided to make some improvements to the design, widening the turning radius, which requires replacing one of the abutments. For this and other technical reasons, we will have to close this structure to traffic,” he said.
The Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), in coordination with the National Institute of Land Transit (Intrant), the Santo Domingo East City Hall, and the General Directorate of Traffic Safety and Land Transportation (Digesett), will provide timely guidance, the duration of the overpass closure, and an alternate traffic map to ensure vehicles can travel through the area without problems.
