SANTO DOMINGO.-With a mass at the Santa María la Menor Cathedral, officiated by auxiliary bishop Ramón Benito Ángeles, and a floral offering at the Altar of the Fatherland, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) commemorated this Friday the 89th anniversary of its founding.
In his homily, Benito Ángeles said that Public Works has so many men and women in different places working together to deliver joint results as an institution.
He indicated that the mass was for the intention of all the workers that Public Works has, “many of them very humble men and women and that we always see them working in the streets; when we are touring the country we find them in the ravines and other places, trying to maintain cleanliness, a job, a service and a continuous improvement plan.
He congratulated Minister Deligne Ascención, as well as all the officials and other employees of the institution who are in a service role, who use their time to produce and not to be sterile, "but to give their best based on this unity of capacity, wills and skills that are precisely called to give joint results as an institution.".
He maintained that there will always be contingencies and difficulties, but that what is important is the ability to respond efficiently, intelligently and responsibly, "and of course, consistently with the commitment to carry out the work that corresponds to us.".
Meanwhile, Ascención highlighted the work carried out by the various collaborators in the different roles they perform within the MOPC.
He expressed that the positions held by a public servant are temporary, brief spaces in which life and God give the opportunity to serve, in which we must do our best.
He said that those who perform tasks that we often see as simple, but which are fundamental to the preservation and maintenance of public works, are called to do what we are dedicated to.
He remembered the people who lost their lives as a result of the disasters caused by the recent rains, and referred to the effort and commitment that public servants and institutions must make so that atmospheric events like the one that occurred on Saturday do not leave such a trail of pain, while informing that on the occasion of its 89th anniversary the MOPC will not hold any type of festive celebration.
“To those human beings, Dominicans and of other nationalities, we cannot fail to think about renewing our efforts and commitments so that these phenomena, which are inevitable and will always bring some kind of pain, can be limited by our effort, dedication and sacrifice,” he expressed.
The offerings presented included national symbols, the representative flag of the MOPC, and work tools from the areas of citizen services, road assistance, road maintenance, RD-Vial, medical assistance, social programs, among others.
The mass, in which Monsignor Benito Ángeles was assisted by Father Nelson Clark, was also attended by deputy ministers, general directors and area directors of the MOPC, as well as contractors and representatives of various public and private institutions.
Floral offering
A delegation from the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), comprised of vice ministers, general directors and other officials, laid a floral offering at the Altar of the Fatherland.
Deputy Minister Ángel Tejeda, representing Minister Ascención, said that on the occasion of its 89th anniversary, Public Works assumes the commitment to continue working in the service of the best interests.
“We appreciate the trust placed in our President and we affirm our duty to serve the nation,” he said.
