SANTO DOMINGO.-With the purpose of learning about best practices on the use of rules, principles and standards that contribute to strengthening and modernizing the effective administration of land, the national directors of the Real Estate Registry (RI) participated in the fifth meeting of the Group of Experts on Land Administration and Management and the Second International Seminar on Global Management of Geospatial Information, held by the United Nations.
In these events, held simultaneously, the topic of effective land management was addressed, where the institutional delegation composed of the national director of Title Registration, Indhira del Rosario Luna; and the national director of Cadastral Surveys, Ridomil A. Rojas Ferreyra, presented the paper “Key elements of the reference framework for the effective administration of land”, using the Dominican Republic as an example.
In his speech, Rojas referred to the actors that influence real estate and cadastral processes; the comprehensive vision of cadastral management; the importance of publicity for risk prevention; as well as the inter-institutional integration that should be fostered in countries to provide legal certainty.
The National Director of Cadastral Surveys emphasized the projects being implemented by the Land Registry to promote effective land administration, highlighting the mapping of historical parcels, services through electronic channels, and the currently georeferenced parcel processes. He also shared with attendees the institutional tools available to facilitate pre-filing services and access to the cadastral parcel database.
A press release highlights that the RI's national directors also participated in a working group discussion on how effective land management contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals; the region's prospects; and the challenges to achieving the integration of land and maritime cadastre.
They also exchanged views on the importance of maintaining interactions of this type that serve as a reference for developing, renewing, reforming, strengthening or modernizing the land administration and management systems of the member countries of the Effective Land Administration (FELA).
About the event
The event took place in Aguascalientes, Mexico, which served as host. The United Nations International Seminar on Global Geospatial Information Management was an open forum for dialogue and deliberation on key land-related considerations.
Both events aim to advance activities related to effective land management and the United Nations' 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
