SANTO DOMINGO.– President Luis Abinader, through Decree #47-23, enacted the Law declaring the Province of La Vega as an Ecotourism Province, in an initiative presented by Senator Rogelio Genao of the Reformist Party.
"The province of La Vega has more than 20 protected areas of different categories, ranging from National Parks and Natural Monuments to Scenic Routes, among others. Furthermore, it is the main destination for domestic tourism, adventure tourism, and ecotourism," said Senator Rogelio Genao.
Among the cultural and religious tourism attractions located in La Vega are the La Vega Vieja Ruins Historical Park and the Santo Cerro; the Historic Center of La Vega with its architectural variety in its buildings; the Domingo Savio Parish, Las Logias, the María Auxiliadora Parish, which was founded by Father Fantino Falco in the Fula area of the Rincón Municipal District and the Immaculate Conception Cathedral of La Vega.
In addition, there are the Route of Faith, the Juan Pablo Duarte Route, the Juan Bosch Life Route; the Furniture Cluster in Burende and the Rice Cluster.
In the case of mountain tourism, the province of La Vega also stands out as a national brand, since it is home to the intermontane valleys of the Central Mountain Range, adorned by the Las Mercedes River in Santo Cerro; Rincón, Jima and Ranchito; the Acapulco resort and the extraordinary views of natural landscapes such as the Tireo Valley, the Constanza Valley and the Jarabacoa Valley, bordered by the channels of the great Yaque del Norte and Jimenoa rivers, which form the resorts of La Confluencia, Baiguate and Guanajuma, where it is impossible for the tourist not to stop to enjoy the waterfalls such as Jimenoa or Guázara and Baiguate, ideal places to enjoy adventure ecotourism: canoeing or rafting, canyoning, paragliding, waterfall jumping, mountain biking, horseback riding, tubing and mountaineering.
