BANI, PERAVIA.- The Dominican Port Authority (APORDOM) broke ground on the construction of the fishing pier in the town of Las Salinas in this province, a project that is expected to generate more direct and indirect jobs, which will boost the economy in this area.
At the head of the event, APORDOM's executive director, Jean Luis Rodríguez, highlighted that in a first phase, this terminal will renew and boost the economic area of Las Salinas.
In his address, he explained the project's construction process and presented the engineers with 20% of the payment to begin work. The project is part of the National Fishing Pier Plan.
“We have plans to improve 11 fishing piers across the country. We have been able to continue a project that originated during our administration, thanks to the support of President Luis Abinader. Since we arrived at the Port Authority, we have implemented a national plan. The President requested the involvement of IDECOOP, Codopesca, and Promipyme. Work will not be halted due to a lack of resources; for this purpose, we have 440 million pesos stored in the Port Authority's vault,” stated the head of APORDOM.

Main characteristics of the work
The Las Salinas fishing pier will have a T-shaped protective design, and its inauguration is scheduled for a maximum period of six months.
Some of the features that make up the project are the common areas, cleaning for fishermen, a plaza with synthetic wood with concrete cladding, bathrooms for disabled people, metal beams in its structure and a dock for some catamarans.
As for the dock piles, eight-inch diameter metal pipe piles with a thickness of 3/8 inch (9.523 mm) will be used. These pipes contain concrete with a minimum compressive strength of 350 kg/cm², typical for this type of application.
For his part, Santo Ramírez, mayor of Baní, stated that the initiative will improve the lives of the fishermen, people who have dedicated themselves to changing the environment of this beach, and “I personally thank Jean Luis for always being present.”.
Meanwhile, Ángela Yadira Báez, governor of Peravia, pointed out that the case of the fishermen had been neglected for many years and thanked God, “President Luis Abinader and Jean Luis Rodríguez, committed to lending a helping hand, not only to the fishermen of this place, but also to tourism.”.
Finally, the port director stated that “it is important for us to complete this project, a vision of President Abinader.”.
The activity was blessed by Minister Florentino Zapata, from the Parish of Santo Domingo de Guzmán.
Also participating in the event were the deputy directors Joaquín Fernández and Alan Checo; Celestino Martínez, director of Operations; Otto José Hidalgo, advisor; and Melvin de Jesús, director of Logistics.
Along with them were the president of the Las Salinas Fishermen's Association, Ángel Antonio; municipal authorities, councilors from other provinces, members of the Dominican Navy, the Tourism Cluster, councilors, among others.
