SANTIAGO.– Engineer Galvy Núñez, head of the northern delegation of the National Office for Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie), reported that he is currently working on the evaluation of all public schools in the province of La Vega. He also stated that he is working with the Commission for the Supervision of Public Infrastructure in the Face of Climate Change on the review of bridges in the municipality of Santiago de los Caballeros.
According to reports, to reinforce prevention and strengthen the technical capabilities of engineers and architects, around 50 professionals belonging to the Civil Engineers Nucleus of the northern delegation of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (Codia), participated in the Diploma in the evaluation of building infrastructures pre and post earthquake.
He states that the training allowed the government entity to have another team of professionals integrated into the Network of Structural Evaluators and the Bank of Evaluators, with the objective of working together with the State's emergency agencies in evaluation actions before and after an earthquake.
Reopening
To streamline and optimize its functions, the facilities where the entity operates, located in the San Luis Fortress, Santiago de los Caballeros, were renovated and equipped with new and modern furniture, new staff were hired, and the area was beautified.
Leonardo Reyes Madera, the entity's general director, emphasized the importance for the citizens of Santiago and the region of having access to the services of the institution responsible for evaluating the seismic vulnerability of buildings.
He stated that the northern delegation has engineering and architecture professionals with the ability to evaluate buildings, infrastructure, and lifelines.
The official stated that Onesvie continues to evaluate all buildings in the region and strengthen the professional capabilities of engineers and architects responsible for carrying out each of the evaluations.
In that regard, he mentioned that within that training and development process is the implementation of the aforementioned Diploma in building evaluation, in combination with the Civil Engineers Core of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (Codia), the National School of Risk Management (Esnageri), the European Union and the Progeri-RD Capacity Building project of the National Emergency Commission (CNE)
