SANTO DOMINGO– Foreign Minister Roberto Álvarez categorically denied yesterday, Monday, via his X account (formerly Twitter), the claims made by former President Leonel Fernández, regarding the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mirex, having issued some 39,000 tourist visas to Haitians this September and more than 400,000 in 2024 through the consulates.
Álvarez described Fernández's claims as unfounded, and announced that as soon as he returns from his trip to Mexico with President Luis Abinader, he will convene a press conference to demonstrate that the former president's claims are false.
“As soon as I return to the country, we will summon the media to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that they can verify the fact that our consulates in Haiti have only issued 102 visas for humanitarian trade purposes since September 2023,” the foreign minister stated.
He stated, through his X account, that this lie was offered a few days ago by former General Soto Jiménez and that it was denied by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a statement published by the same digital media outlet, 7 Días, on September 27.
