The project will have an investment of RD 782 million and is developed over an area of 8,280 square meters of construction.
The Minister of Housing, Habitat and Buildings (Mivhed), Carlos Bonilla, conducted a supervisory tour of the facilities of the extension of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in Neiba, Bahoruco province, a project that is in an advanced stage of construction.
This regional center of the UASD, which is being developed by Mivhed and is 65% complete, will decongest the student population of this province in the Southern region.
Likewise, the construction of this center will allow students from the provinces of Bahoruco and Independencia to pursue their studies without having to travel to more distant locations.
During the tour, the official said that construction is progressing and that it will be completed by the middle of next year, changing the lives of many young people who will no longer have to travel to other provinces, paying for transportation, lodging, and food. "Now they will receive instruction in their own province, which will improve their quality of life," he explained.
This infrastructure is developed on 8,280 square meters of construction, with 24 educational classrooms that can accommodate up to 1,074 enrolled students and will also have three laboratories.
It will also have a library for 50 people, an auditorium for 432 people , and three levels of administrative buildings.
The UASD extension will have five postgraduate classrooms, a computer lab, a smart classroom, a patriotic plaza, a multi-purpose court and bleachers, as well as a treatment plant, perimeter fence and service areas.
This project, which will have an investment of RD 782 million, will boost the economy of the Bahoruco province, providing the community with some 750 direct jobs and more than 1,500 indirect jobs.
The development of this center is the response to a demand that the community has made to the authorities for more than 12 years , due to the difficulties faced by the more than 2,000 students enrolled at UASD in Neiba, who receive classes in school buildings, rented residences and open spaces due to the lack of their own building.
During the tour, Minister Carlos Bonilla was accompanied by: the mayor of Neiba, Yadel Suberví; the deputy Olfany Méndez; and the former senator of Bahoruco, Melania Salvador.
