In the last three months, several yachts belonging to Russian have been detained in different parts of the world at the request of the United States or other European countries, under the pretext that they are being investigated for "money laundering" and for sanctions against Russia for the attacks on Ukraine.
Below is a list of some of the vessels belonging to Russian around the world:
Tango
The latest case was reported by Spanish media yesterday. They reported that the Civil Guard seized a luxury yacht called Tango, belonging to a Russian billionaire identified as Viktor Vekselberg. They noted that he is an oligarch wanted by the United States and is close to RussianVladimir Putin.
According to Spanish newspapers, the United States accuses Viktor Vekselberg of conspiring to commit bank fraud, money laundering, and falsifying documents to conceal assets.
The Tango was seized in an operation involving the U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the FBI. The luxury yacht is valued at €90 million and is allegedly registered to a British Virgin Islands company, which in turn is managed by companies in Panama.
Lady Anastasia
Spanish media outlets report that this is the second yacht belonging to a Russian magnate to be detained in Spain. Press reports indicate that the vessel, the Lady Anastasia, is owned by a suspected Russian arms manufacturer identified as Alexander Mijeev. He is said to be a close associate of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The Spanish newspaper ABC reports that the Lady Anastasia is one of the longest yachts (length from bow to stern) in Port Adriano, Mallorca, Spain. It is valued at approximately seven million euros.
The Valerie
Another luxury yacht was seized in Barcelona. It is the Valerie, and according to Spanish media, it belongs to Russian oligarch Sergey Chemezov, who is said to be the head of Russia's largest arms importer, the Rostec Corporation. The Valerie is valued at $140 million.
Andrey's Yacht
Last month, Italian police seized the world's largest sailing yacht, owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Igorevich Melnichenko. The vessel is valued at $578 million, according to Reuters.
PHI Yacht
The Phi, the third largest yacht built by the Dutch shipyard Royal Huisman, measuring 58 meters in length and valued at £38 million (US$50 million, €45 million), is among the vessels linked to Russian millionaires that have been seized in the last three months. According to the Financial Times, the Phi belongs to Russian billionaire Vitaliy Vasilyevich Kochetkov.
Flying Fox
The luxurious Flying Fox is also on the list. It has been anchored in the Port of Don Diego since the 21st of last month, after the US government requested international cooperation from the Dominican Republic to detain and seize the vessel, alleging that it is linked to individuals under investigation for suspected money laundering and tax evasion.
The Flying Fox is owned by Russian billionaire Dmitry Kamenshchik, although US authorities say the vessel is registered to Tarcona Marine, a British Virgin Islands company owned by attorney Georgia Chrysostomides. The Flying Fox is valued at over $400 million.
