Juan Carlos Rodríguez: “Making a trip to show a property and the client not showing up is part of the business.”

SANTO DOMINGO.– Vision, awareness, and patience were the three concepts analyzed by Juan Carlos Rodríguez, business coach and author of several books, to illustrate to more than 100 real estate agents aspects that they must keep in mind in their daily lives to advance in their careers.

Speaking at the “2024 Real Estate Offer Convention,” held last week at the Sheraton Hotel in the Dominican capital, the prominent speaker maintained that vision is about seeing things before they happen. “The attitude you need to have is what the mind sees when you have a clear understanding of the vision,” he explained.

He said that to achieve success, you have to set sail and make trips. “Making a trip to show a property and not having the client show up is part of the business,” Rodríguez emphasized, urging the more than 100 participants to prepare for opportunities.

In speaking about awareness, she prompted the audience to reflect on the importance of saving versus the commitments that must be met each month. “The concept of financial delivery refers to money that isn't yours, but rather belongs to your obligations and needs.”.

He spoke about the importance of consistency, the need to operate in an organized financial manner, and education to learn how to live, after stating that "we don't know how to manage ourselves in the market and in life.".

“Are you in the business of showing off what you have or making money?” he asked the participants. “There’s a difference between what you produce and what you manage; some people have already exploited their resources by the time they get their commission,” he emphasized.

Juan Carlos Rodríguez elaborated on the importance of patience, urging real estate agents to give themselves the necessary time to reap the rewards of their work. “What you're trying to achieve is only attained by 1% of the population; it's not easy. If it were, everyone would do it. God divided the history of humanity into before and after him, and the same is true for human beings.”.

He added that when you want to do things honestly, "you will be as rich as your honesty allows. The economy we live in is not simple, it's complex; now you have to be a real estate developer, not just a seller.".

He opined that everything has its advantages and disadvantages, that currently there is access to more clients, but there are more challenges, such as learning Artificial Intelligence. “Be patient, which is the science of waiting peacefully; it is a virtue. Don't despair. You have to understand that when you're going 800 km/h, things seem slow, so you have to give yourself time to see the results. Most people don't fail, they just give up too quickly.”.

Dress the way you want to be treated

“You should dress the way you want to be treated, but some people take it out of context. Sometimes people try to compensate for what they lack on the inside by showing it on the outside,” Rodríguez said when asked by El Inmobiliario about the clothing of some real estate agents.

He stated that for those who have content and whose goal is to advise the client to achieve a good result, clothing is not the most important thing.

“So there are people who are all about clothes, all about image, and from the moment they have to open their mouths, they have to find the agency owner to speak for them because their only job was fishing. But everyone uses the tools they have in their development process, and if there are people whose only asset is their image, then thank God they use their image.” He added, “Sometimes a real estate agent starts the business and all they get is a man, and that’s the end of their career. In other words, there are people who say they’re in the industry, but what they’re really looking for is a partner.”.
