JAC announces Prague-Punta Cana air connection starting in November

SANTO DOMINGO. – The Civil Aviation Board (JAC) announced this Monday that starting November 1st of this year there will be a new air route between Prague and Punta Cana, as a result of the air transport agreement signed between the Dominican Republic and the Czech Republic in June of this year.

In a press release, the JAC states that the plenary session of the entity was informed of the requests for new operations that will allow attracting passengers from non-traditional destinations such as the Czech Republic to Dominican soil.

At the seventeenth ordinary plenary session, José Ernesto Marte Piantini, president of the JAC, said that the foreign operator WORLD 2 FLY requested a Special Permit to operate flights on the Prague/Punta Cana/Prague route starting November 1st of this year.

During the session, the president of the organization also informed the members of the plenary that the Prague/Punta Cana/Prague route is not included in any operating permit or economic authorization certificate.

Marte Piantini indicated that "actions to expand commercial aviation in the country are a reality, especially towards strategic European markets.".

The members of the plenary session also learned of the application for codeshare operations between Air Europa and Turkish Airlines for flights on the Madrid/Santo Domingo/Madrid route, with Air Europa as the primary operator and Turkish Airlines as the market operator. They stated that these operations would begin on October 29, 2023.

The plenary session also reviewed the application from Air Europa and Etihad Airways to operate the Madrid/Santo Domingo/Madrid route under a codeshare agreement, with Air Europa as the operator and Etihad as the market operator. It was explained that these operations will also commence on October 29, 2023.

Finally, Marte Piantini reported that the Civil Aviation Board, with the aim of expanding air transport services to and from Europe, based on the Codeshare Agreement signed between Air Europa with Etihad Airways and Turkish Airlines, has authorized a series of seasonal operations for Air Europa and Etihad Airways on the Madrid/Santo Domingo/Madrid route, with connecting flights from Abu Dhabi, capital of the United Arab Emirates, and between Air Europa and Turkish Airlines on the Madrid/Santo Domingo/Madrid route, with connecting flights from Istanbul.
