The Dominican Republic will create 100 new commercial air routes in three years, according to the Civil Aviation Board (JAC)

SANTO DOMINGO.- Since 2020, the Dominican Republic has created 100 new commercial air routes, positioning the country as one of the fastest growing civil aviation industries in the Caribbean and Latin America region.

This was reported yesterday by the president of the Civil Aviation Board (JAC), José Marte Piantini, after leading the second ordinary session of the plenary of that body corresponding to the month of October of this year.

A press release from the entity states that in the current period of 2023, "national air activity in the Dominican Republic looks strong and vigorous, in the first ten months of this year.".

Marte Piantini specified that since 2020, Dominican civil aviation has been a strategic industry that promotes economic growth and national development. “More than one hundred new air routes to and from Dominican territory have been established,” he stated, highlighting that this is the first time such a number of new connections have been established in just three years, reflecting the importance of the role that commercial aviation plays in the country.

Regarding Law 57-23, he said that President Luis Abinader is placing the country at the forefront of civil aviation. “I have long maintained that the president is the father of civil aviation in the Dominican Republic, and this new law proves it,” emphasized the president of the country's commercial aviation regulatory body.

He explained that the new law will increase the number of visitors arriving by air, and consequently promote the establishment of new routes to and from strategic markets.

He further explained that Law 57-23 will strengthen the Dominican territory as a connection point for cargo transport and international investment.

He emphasized that in terms of air connectivity, thanks to the efforts of the Civil Aviation Board and other institutions in the sector, the Dominican Republic has managed to position itself as one of the fastest growing aviation industries in the region.
