SANTO DOMINGO – Although the Dominican real estate market has experienced a decline in recent times, sales to international investors remain active and are growing, registering increases in some developers in the eastern region.
This was stated by Ismael Rubio Marcovich, CEO of the company Inversiones e Inmobiliaria Huacachina, who highlighted that during the January-March quarter, sales increased by 13.5% compared to the same period in 2024, which represents a clear sign of confidence from foreign investors, according to the businessman.
The executive emphasized that much of Huacachina's growth stems from its strong international customer base. “We have American, Canadian, Mexican, Colombian, Peruvian, Ecuadorian, Spanish, and Italian clients, and today we are opening a market in India. We are bringing clients from there to the Dominican Republic. So soon there will be many Indians in the city,” he explained.
Regarding the behavior of Dominican buyers, Rubio indicated that although they continue to invest, they do so with some caution. “Dominicans are still buying, but with a lot of fear. Why? Because there is a group of unscrupulous businesspeople who have done a lot of damage to the real estate market and have created a climate of fear, a sense of unease that suggests the market is very fearful. And there have been horrendous cases, which fortunately are being punished or prosecuted. And that is what has created unease in the market, a lot of unease,” he pointed out.
He pointed out, however, "that in our case as Huacachina, we have a large number of clients who are non-resident Dominicans or foreigners who want to invest.".
He opined that the current market in general is not the same as it was two years ago, but that sales continue, projecting that everything will return to its normal pace, because the Dominican market maintains a favorable climate, given its stability.
Regarding the company's reach in the country, he emphasized that his brand's commitment to the Dominican market is firm and long-term. “We have already developed a little over two and a half million square meters that we have acquired in the area. We are halfway through, and we have only been here for two and a half years. We have come to stay in the country for about 20 years.”.
