SANTO DOMINGO.-The National Office of Seismic Evaluation and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (Onesvie), through its Northern Regional Delegation (Santiago), recommended the total demolition of a three-level building located in the Despradel sector in La Vega, after carrying out a technical evaluation that determined a high level of structural risk.
The inspection was carried out in response to a joint request from the Vice Ministry of Citizen Coexistence of the Ministry of the Interior and Police and the Cibao Central Regional Directorate of Civil Defense, who acted on the concerns of the residents of the sector, worried about the advanced deterioration of the property, which was out of use.

According to the report issued by the Onesvie technical team, headed by Eng. Leonardo Reyes Madera, the institution's general director, the structure presented critical conditions, with a high probability of collapse, which represented a threat to the safety of the community; in response, its immediate demolition was recommended as a preventive measure.
The property owner welcomed the technical recommendation and proceeded with the demolition voluntarily, with Onesvie's support and the backing of local authorities. With this action, Onesvie reaffirms its commitment to risk prevention, protecting human lives, and promoting safer and more resilient communities in the face of seismic and structural threats.
The National Office for Seismic Assessment and Vulnerability of Infrastructure and Buildings (ONESVIE) was created by Decree 715-01 in 2001, with the purpose of reducing seismic vulnerability in buildings, infrastructure, and lifelines, and proposing corrective solutions. It works to identify structural vulnerabilities to prevent disasters, offering services such as seismic assessments, technical diagnoses, consulting, training, and prevention protocols, especially for key infrastructure such as schools, hospitals, and government buildings.
